AnewideacameintoTirian’shead.Hedroppedhissword,dartedforward,inunderthesweepoftheTarkaan’sscimitar,seizedhisenemybythebeltwithbothhands,andjumpedbackintothestable,shouting:
“ComeinandmeetTashyourself!”
Therewasadeafeningnoise.AswhentheApehadbeenflungin,theearthshookandtherewasablindinglight.
TheCalormenesoldiersoutsidescreamed.“Tash,Tash!”andbangedthedoor.IfTashwantedtheirownCaptain,TashmusthavehiThey,atanyrate,didnotwanttomeetTash.
ForamomentortwoTiriandidnotknowwherehewasor

ButtheTarkaanneitherliftedhisfacefromthegroundnorsaidaword.Hewasshakinglikeamanwithabadhiccup.Hewasbraveenoughinbattle:buthalfhiscouragehadlefthimearlierthatnightwhenhefirstbegantosuspectthattheremightbearealTash.Therestofithadlefthimnow.
